Somatic Approach

  • Establish safety and connection

  • Cultivate the felt sense

  • Grow capacity to be present with what is

  • Allow the body to complete unresolved processes in its own natural time

This is NOT talk therapy.  I am NOT a licensed counselor or psychotherapist.  While your personal history, life memories, and beliefs are helpful input, they are not the focus of our time together.  We notice memories as they arise and track them in the context of real time sensations, emotions, mental images, and body behavior.

Together, we learn to create the conditions that enable our bodies (through the autonomic nervous system) to actively release trauma, thereby restoring ease and resiliency.  These are not metaphorical or conceptual constructs. We are physically engaging biological systems that are proven, reliable, and trustworthy, having been in constant development for 600 million years.

During the past 20 years, much has been learned about these systems, and practical approaches have been developed that are (finally) helping many people recover from trauma-related difficulties.

We cultivate the felt sense through gentle practices.  We learn to notice and "be with" our sensations, mental images, body movements and expression, and emotions.  We develop resources, both internal and external, to support ourselves. We learn to cultivate a true sense of safety and connection in the moment.  We move our bodies in ways that restore resiliency and our ability to respond appropriately to our surroundings.

Because the autonomic nervous system is the foundation governing all of our biological processes, once we restore our capacity to regulate, many difficulties and illnesses resolve over time.

Essentially, we reset our nervous systems to improve our health, well-being, and capacity for meaningful connections.
